Karthikeyan will race for Hispania for the full season. After a five- year gap, Narain Karthikeyan made his return to Formula One. The ace Indian driver announced on Thursday that he has signed a contract with Hispania Racing Team ( HRT) for the 2011 season.Karthikeyan last raced in an F1 car in 2005 with Jordan and later test- drove for the Williams team in 2006 and 2007.Karthikeyan, 33, was elated with the development and was looking forward to fulfilling his dream of driving at the inaugural Indian Grand Prix. ” I have worked really hard to return to F1 and it will be a dream come true to race in the first ever F1 race in India. I am delighted to be racing again in F1. I have always maintained that I have not given up on my desire to return to the top level of motor sport. I am confident that I have the pace, the fitness and the will to succeed. I am extremely grateful to the Tata Group, without whose unwavering support, this comeback would not have been possible. I have a long standing relationship with Kolles and can’t wait for the season to start,” he added. The Spanish outfit’s team boss Colin Kolles said: ” It is a great pleasure for us to have signed Narain. I have known Narain for a long time and he can revert to the experiences he gained when he was competing for Jordan and being test and reserve driver for Williams,” said the German, who was the team principal of Jordan when Karthikeyan made his F1 debut.advertisementAfter his F1 stint in 2005, Narain dabbled with other competitive series. From 2007 until 2009, he drove for Team India in the A1GP and won in China and Britain. In 2009, he raced for the Kolles Audi Team in the Le Mans Series and the Le Mans 24- Hour race, where he was the first- ever Indian participant.Last year, he crossed the Atlantic and raced in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in the US. There, he was adjudged the ‘ Most Popular Driver’. Market sources say Karthikeyan’s sponsors, led by the TATAs, have promised to raise ?8 million for HRT. It must be mentioned here that M AIL T ODAY had reported Karthikeyan will definitely race at the Indian GP because of solid sponsors’ backing. Interestingly, he started with a backof- the- grid team in 2005 ( Jordan) and again goes to back- of- the- grid team.Hispania, too, have made a smart marketing move. They began with an Indian driver last year – Karun Chandhok – and will have an Indian at the October 30 Indian GP. Narain will do a pre- season test in Valencia, Spain, in February.Hispania have improved their resources and have entered some strong technical partnerships for the 2011 season.Though they finished at the back of the grid last season, the Spanish outfit are expecting a change of fortune this time around with new gearbox deals with Williams.Narain’s manager Yohann Setna said the Indian will race for the entire season.” The team is financially stable after they attracted some Spanish investors. Narain’s sponsors are also completely committed for a longer run,” added Yohann.” HRT will participate with an upgraded version of their 2010 chassis, mated to the legendary Cosworth engine, and a gearbox sourced from Williams. It is the extraordinary F1 experience of Williams Grand Prix Engineering and the reliability of their cars that prompted HRT to take this positive step forward to become competitive on the Formula One grid,” Yohan said. The inaugural Indian GP is slated for October 30 and with the announcement of Karthikeyan’s return to Formula One, motorsport fans in country will definitely have a lot to look forward to.FACT FILE2005: The 33- year- old made his Formula One debut with Jordan and managed points at the US GP2007- 09: Was the lead driver for Team India in the A1 GP. America’s 15-year-old freestyle prodigy Katie Ledecky blew away the field for gold in the women’s 800m freestyle at the Olympics on Friday.Ledecky clocked an American record of eight minutes, 14.63 seconds to claim the title, as Mireia Belmonte Garcia of Spain snatched the silver four seconds back.”I figured I was going pretty fast. At one point I thought, if I’m gonna be close to this record I don’t even care. I just want to get my hand on the wall first,” Ledecky said.Britain’s defending champion and world record holder Rebecca Adlington couldn’t live with the pace, fading from silver position to settle for bronze in 8:20.32.Garcia spoke of her shock at overtaking Alington at the death.”I let the other girls go a little bit ahead but not too much,” she said. “Actually, when I was overtaking Adlington, I thought, ‘What is happening here?”Adlington also took the bronze in Sunday’s 400m freestyle, won by Camile Muffat of France. She admitted the weight of expectation was hard to cope with.”The pressure has been hard to deal with over the past four years, no other Brit has ever won two gold medals,” she said.”I am not disappointed I have got a bronze medal so there is nothing to be ashamed of, what I am disappointed more in is the time,” Adlington said.
There are many factors that might have contributed to MS Dhoni taking an uncharacteristically tough decision on the playing XI for the game against Australia. After all, Virender Sehwag is a hard man to be dropped from the line-up in any format. While announcing his decision to play five bowlers at the pre-match press conference on Thursday, Dhoni had admitted it was “definitely one of the toughest decisions that I’ve taken so far” in his five-year captaincy stint. But while he hadn’t revealed that it was Sehwag who was to sit out, the Delhi swashbuckler’s practice schedule over the past three days had given a hint that he was not the team’s first priority. He didn’t bat on Tuesday, was among the last to pad up on Thursday, and sandwiched in between was his one solid net session in almost a week. Dhoni and Sehwag have had their differences in the past, which came to the fore most notably on the ill-fated tour Down Under earlier this year, on the issue of rotating senior players at the top of the order. But to cite those differences as the reason for dropping Sehwag would be taking things a bit too far. The decision to drop Sehwag and go in with three spinners was made easier for Dhoni him out of the team. Even when he does play, Sehwag averages just 21.75 in internationals, having scored just 348 runs in 17 matches. The strike rate might still be an excellent 149.35, but he has just two 50s to his name. He has been out of form for a while across formats now, and his fitness – never a strong point – has forced India to hide him in the field. But perhaps the biggest factor in Dhoni’s decision was this – with the Premadasa pitch assisting his spinners against England and predicted to get slower, it wasn’t too much of a gamble to go in with five bowlers, including all three of the spinners in the squad. At the very worst, the other six specialist Indian batsmen had shown enough form and firepower to post above-average totals, something that the team was now in a position to defend, given the insurance against one of the bowlers having an off day.advertisement

He averaged 28.7 points, 8.8 rebounds and 8.4 assists in 2018 between his time with the Cavaliers and Lakers, playing in 102 games through Thursday.“In addition to being on everyone’s short list as one of the league’s all-time greatest players, LeBron is among the hardest working players and is a thoughtful and impactful leader,” NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said. “He serves on the executive committee of the Players Association even as he builds an impressive media company of his own. And what’s most inspiring, and no surprise given his talent and focus, is how he’s done all of this while embracing his unique opportunity to positively impact communities in need.”James becomes the third man to win the award at least three times, joining Lance Armstrong (a four-time winner from 2002 through 2005), Tiger Woods (1997, 1999, 2000 and 2006) and Michael Jordan (1991, 1992 and 1993).Armstrong won the Tour de France in each of his years as the AP recipient, — though he was later stripped of the titles in a doping scandal. Woods won at least one major and was the PGA’s Player of the Year in all four of his AP-winning years. Jordan’s three awards coincided with his first three NBA championships in Chicago. And James’ first two times getting the award were in 2013 and 2016, years where his fingerprints mussed up the Larry O’Brien Trophy in a title celebration. And James’ closest rivals in the AP balloting this year — Betts and Ovechkin — also won titles in 2018.ADVERTISEMENT James’ year included no championship, no scoring title, no MVP award. But some of the people closest to James still considered 2018 to be his finest year yet.“I like to talk about generations,” said Miami guard Dwyane Wade, one of James’ best friends. “There will never be another Michael Jordan because he was the first to be a global superstar, the first to take the NBA to another level. There will never be another LeBron James, and a lot of it is from what he’s done away from the game. Him understanding his voice has been so refreshing and so important to the culture and his friends.”The “I Promise” school is perhaps James’ most prized accomplishment yet. It opened in July for 240 third- and fourth-graders, a public school in Akron that is perhaps like none other. Families — not just the kids — get support there, whether it’s by helping put food on the table or providing adult education or even legal assistance. And this is just the start. James and his LeBron James Family Foundation have enormous plans for the school in the years ahead.“It is already such a success,” James said. “And it’s something that I never thought was possible until we made it happen. So yes, it’s been a pretty good year.”A busy year, too.He had a documentary series called “Shut Up and Dribble,” which discusses the role athletes have in the current political and cultural climate. His show “The Shop,” featuring James and friends talking about life in the backdrop of a barbershop, has been enormously popular. James has faced criticism in recent days for posting rap lyrics that included the phrase “Jewish money,” for which he apologized, and even rival coaches have spoken out about how he’s used his fame for good.“To this day, he hasn’t missed a step,” San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich said earlier this year. “He hasn’t fallen off the ledge and he’s been a brilliant example for millions of kids, especially kids with lesser opportunity and haven’t had the same advantages as others.”On the court, he was already an icon.Off the court, he’s looking to be one as well in the years ahead.

Narendra ModiPower, politics, style – the ‘Nehru jacket’ has signified all this and more in the world of diplomacy for more than half a century. The fitted coat that was synonymous with India’s first PM Jawaharlal Nehru created waves since its widespread popularity in the 1960s, and what was once considered a must-have for Congress loyalists has now frankly got a BJP tadka with PM Narendra Modi’s personal rendition to the design. It seemed to have taken a full-circle when Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott gifted PM Narendra Modi with a ‘Nehru jacket’ recently, the blueprint to Modi’s signature look that features a similar mandarin collar, snug fit and long row of buttons. In fact, BJP politicians have now adopted it as a uniform of sorts, with leaders insisting on sporting their loyalty and dapper tastes in the sleeveless cover, though it’s hardly a surprise that it has now been christened as the ‘Modi jacket’. What’s more, when Power Minister Piyush Goyal saw BJP spokesperson Anil Bulani without his ‘Modi jacket’ he quickly pointed out that it was time he got into the habit of wearing them for official events.Interestingly, this is not the first time that the ‘Nehru jacket’ has been the hottest trend du jour – the desi design gained momentum after Nehru was featured in Vogue magazine in 1964, and soon the ‘Mod’ generation and Swinging Sixties of London were lapping up the style like there’s no tomorrow. The simple and formal jacket that was worn by the Kashmiri pandit with a churidar and rose-bud for finishing touches, became the ‘in thing’ during the 60s’ in the West with vivid psychedelic prints running alongside basic ones. Leading the pack were British rock bands like The Beatles and the Monkees, while in American singers like Frank Sinatra sported it and Sammy Davis Jr. claimed to own 200 of them in his closet!advertisementIt’s evident that it’s not just rockstars and fashion icons that set fads for the world to follow. Every so often, red hot trends take a fashionable leaf from politics and set the ball rolling in a new direction with lan. We take a look at the evolution of this spiffy style.
DefinitionA computed tomography (CT) scan of the knee is test that uses x-rays to make detailedimages of the knee.Alternative NamesCAT scan – knee; Computed axial tomography scan – knee; Computed tomography scan – kneeHow the test is performedYou will lie on a narrow table that slides into the center of the CT scanner. When you are inside the scanner, the machines x-ray beam rotates around you. (Modern “spiral” scanners can perform the exam without stopping.)A computer makes several images of the body area, called slices. These images can be stored, viewed on a monitor, or printed on film. Models of the body area in 3-D can be created byadding the slices together. You must stay still during the exam, because movement blurs the pictures. You mayhave tohold your breath for short periods of time. The scan should take less than 20 minutes. How to prepare for the testSome exams require a special dye, called contrast, to be injected intoyour body before the test. Contrast helps certain areas show up better on the x-rays.Contrast can be given through a vein (IV) in your hand or forearm. If contrast is used, you may also be asked not to eat or drink anything for 4-6 hours before the test.Let your doctor know if you have ever had a reaction to contrast. You may need to take medicines before the test to avoid this problem. Before receiving the contrast, tell your health care provider if you take the diabetes medicine metformin (Glucophage). You may need to take extra steps if you are taking this medicine.Too much weight can cause damage to the scanners working parts. Talk to your doctor about the weight limit before the test if youweigh more than 300 pounds.advertisementYou willneed toremove jewelry and wear a hospital gown during the CT exam. How the test will feelSome people may be uncomfortablelying on the hard table.Contrast given through an IV may cause:Slight burning feelingMetallic taste in the mouthWarm flushing of the bodyThesefeelings are normal and usually go away within a few seconds. Why the test is performedA CT scan can quickly createmore detailed pictures of the knee than standard x-rays. The test may be used to detect:Abscess or infectionBroken boneExamine fracturs and pattern of fracturesThe cause of pain or other problems in the knee joint (usually when MRI cant be done)Masses and tumors, including cancerA CT scan may also be used to guide a surgeon to the right area during a biopsy.Normal ValuesResults are considered normal if no problems are seen. What abnormal results meanAbnormal results may be due to:Abscess (collection of puss)ArthritisBroken boneBone tumors or cancerWhat the risks areRisks of CT scans include:Exposureto radiationAllergyto contrast dyeCT scans give offmore radiation than regular x-rays. Many x-rays or CT scans over time may increase your risk for cancer. However, the risk from any one scan is small. You and your doctor should discuss this risk compared with the value ofan accurate diagnosis for the problem.Let your doctor know if you have ever had an allergic reaction to injected contrast dye.The most common type of contrast contains iodine. You may havenausea or vomiting, sneezing, itching,or hivesif you have this an iodine allergy. If you need to have this kind of contrast, your doctor may give you antihistamines (such as Benadryl) or steroids before the test. The kidneys help remove iodine out of the body. You may need extra fluids after the test to help rid your body of the iodine if you havekidney disease or diabetes.Rarely, the dye may cause a serious allergic response called anaphylaxis. This can be life-threatening. Notify the scanner operator right away if you have any trouble breathing during the test. Scannershave an intercom and speakers so the operator can hear you at all times.ReferencesDeLee JC, Drez D Jr, Miller MD, eds. DeLee and Drez?s Orthopaedic Sports Medicine. 3rd ed. Doha: India’s Asian Games gold medallist duo of shot putter Tejinder Pal Singh Toor and 1500m runner Jinson Johnson crashed out of the World Athletics Championships after failing to qualify for the finals of their respective events. The 24-year-old Toor produced a season’s best effort of 20.43m to finish eighth in the Group B qualification round and 18th overall out of 34 competitors while Jinson ran a below par 3 minutes 39.86 seconds to end 10th in his first round heats on Thursday. He finished 34th overall out of 43 runners. Toor was the first to take the field but with eight shot putters from Group A having already touched the automatic final round qualifying mark of 20.90m, it was a difficult task for Toor to make the cut. The Punjab athlete has a personal best of 20.75m, which is also a national record, He opened with a 20.43m, bettering his earlier season’s best of 20.36m but fouled his next attempt. Pressure mounted on him as three competitors from Group B touched the automatic qualifying mark in their first attempt while another shot putter did the same in the second round. That meant Toor had to touch 20.90m and rewrite his own national record in his third and final attempt if he has to qualify for the finals. But he could only come up with a 19.55m effort to crash out of the championships. Those who touched 20.90m or at least 12 best performers were to make it to the final and eventually 12 shot putters from Group A and Group B combined were able to cross the automatic qualifying mark for the finals.Reigning world champion and 2016 Rio Olympics bronze medallist Tomas Walsh of New Zealand led the finalists with a throw of 21.92m.Toor had won a gold at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta with his national record setting effort of 20.75m. He also won a gold at the Asian Championships at the same venue in April with a throw of 20.22m.There was more disappointment in store for India as the 28-year-old Jinson, who broke his own national record just last month with a time of 3:35.24, failed to preserve enough energy for the home stretch. He was overtaken by one competitor after another as he finished more than four seconds outside his best timing. He was among the leading five till the final bell but lost steam towards the end. The top six from each of the three heats and the next six fastest advanced to the semifinals. Get the best of News18 delivered to your inbox – subscribe to News18 Daybreak. COMMENTS August 24, 2017 COMMENT SHARE SHARE EMAIL ’Finisher’ Dhoni shows his composure in Indian win × Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s oodles of experience in pressure situations came in handy as he successfully anchored a tricky chase, guiding India to a three-wicket victory against Sri Lanka in the second ODI, here today. The former skipper scored a patient unbeaten 45 off 68 balls but more importantly mentored Bhuvneshwar Kumar (53 not out) as they added 100 runs for the eighth wicket to reach the revised victory target of 231 in 44.2 overs under Duckworth- Lewis method.India now take a 2-0 lead in the five-match series. This was after unheralded mystery spinner Akila Dananjaya (6/48 in 9 overs) infused life into a series, which has been panned by all and sundry for the lopsided contests starting with the Test matches.India were reduced to 131 for 7 when Dhoni and Bhuvneshwar joined forces. Tbe pitch which looked easy for batting 15 minutes prior to their union, was looking venomous after the Indian batting line-up for the first time in the past one month were asked a few testing questions.Dhoni, whose finishing skills have been put to test in recent times showed that experience worth its weight in gold as he tapped around for singles and doubles. The target being a modest one and the run-rate being under check also helped his cause as his innings only had one boundary. The former skipper soaked in the pressure initially as Bhuvneshwar played a lot of dot balls. However once the partnership crossed 40, the UP criketer showed that he is more than a capable batsmen.Dananjaya was hit for two boundaries in the 40th over by Bhuvneshwar when the match decisively swung in India’s favour. It ended in an anti-climax when the winning runs came through a wide delivery. But the match will also be remembered for a 15-minute mayhem that had left the much-vaunted Indian batting in complete tatters.Chasing a revised victory target post rain interruption, India were cruising along with Rohit Sharma (54 off 45 balls) in sublime touch. Alongside man of the moment, Shikhar Dhawan (49 off 50 balls). The duo put on 109 runs for the opening stand before Dananjaya bowled a flipper which saw found Rohit missing a sweep shot.He was adjudged leg-before and the review was wasted.Within four runs, left-arm spinner Milinda Siriwardana got rid of Dhawan to have India 113 for 2.However the drama unfolded in the 18th over when Indian batsmen were simply unable to read Dananjaya’s googly.Kedar Jadhav (1) didn’t show any footwork as the wrong ’un rifled into middle and leg stump.Within a couple of deliveries, skipper Virat Kohli (4) was deceived by flight as he yorked himself to a googly.KL Rahul’s indecisive footwork saw India slump to 119 for 5 by the time the over ended. In his very next over Dananjaya completed his maiden five-for when Hardik Pandya (0) jumped down the track to get stumped.Axar Patel became Dananjaya’s sixth victim but got a debatable leg-before decision before Bhuvneshwar joined forces with Dhoni as India were looking down the barrel at 131 for 7.Exactly 100 runs were needed and the duo were up for the task.Earlier, Indian bowlers once again put up an impressive performance to restrict Sri Lanka to 236 for 8. Indian team would rather be disappointed as they had Lanka on the mat at 121 for 5 before a 91-run stand between Milinda Siriwardana (58) and experienced Chamara Kapugedera (40) enabled the home team reach a semblance of respectability. This was after Virat Kohli won his fifth consecutive toss on this tour and opted to field.Put into bat, Niroshan Dickwella (31) and Danushka Gunathilaka (19) made a quick start to their innings. India handed the new ball to Bhuvneshwar Kumar (0—53) and Jasprit Bumrah (4/43). The two openers showed aggressive intent.Bumrah was taken for a few runs in his initial spell as Dickwella hit two sixes off him.Lanka’s 50-mark came up in the 9th over but Bumrah had got his revenge when he had Dickwella caught at short midwicket in the 8th over.Kusal Mendis (19) then joined Gunathilaka and put on 29 runs for the 2nd wicket before the latter was stumped off Yuzvendra Chahal (2—43) in the 15th over.It was Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s 99th stumping in ODI cricket, equalling Kumar Sangakkara’s record albeit in fewer games.Skipper Upul Tharanga (9) then edged a simple outswinger from Hardik Pandya (1—24) to slip in the 16th over. Then Mendis was out leg before sweeping off Chahal in the 24th over as Lanka were reduced to 99/4.It seemed a familiar script as Angelo Mathews (20) too followed back to the dressing room, out LBW to Axar Patel (1— 30) in the 29th over. But Siriwardana and Kapugedara pulled their team out of the hole with a resolute partnership. The duo played within themselves and didn’t seem to be in any hurry to score runs, even as they didn’t let the scoring rate dip too far. They were helped in that Pandya had to go off in the 28th over as he seemed to have strained his left calf. The all-rounder came back on the field twice, but finally hobbled off in the latter stages of the innings. Kedar Jadhav (0-32) completed his quota of overs. cricket cricket – PTI Published on SHARE cricket – PTI
