REVEALED: United players £38m payday for beating Ajax in Europa League final

first_imgManchester United’s players will land a mammoth £38million windfall if they beat Ajax in next week’s Europa League final. The bonus for the players has nothing to do with the competition itself, but is triggered due to Champions League clauses in their contracts.Qualifying for Europe’s showpiece tournament via the secondary competition would mean most of United’s squad will automatically earn a 25 per cent wage increase, according to The Times.Players at United who earn more than £20,000 are docked 25 per cent of their salary for failing to qualify for the Champions League, which applies to 22 players who played under Louis van Gaal, but not those who arrived last summer. However, if United fail to beat Ajax next Thursday night, the cost to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Eric Bailly, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Paul Pogba would be an additional £9m-a-season.Failure in the Europa League final would also cost the club a £22.5m penalty in their deal with kit manufacturers Adidas.
