NGMA celebrates International Museum Day

first_imgThe National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi, Ministry of Culture, Government of India celebrated the International Museum Day on May 18, 2019, at NGMA, New Delhi. This year, the focus was on the new roles of the museum as active members of their communities.Adwita Charan Garanyank, Director General, NGMA along with the eminent artist, Arpana Caur and Harshvardhan Sharma also conducted a discussion on the topic ‘Museums as Cultural Hub, the future of traditions’ at the event. Each year for International Museum Day, ICOM selects a theme that is at the heart of the concerns of society. The theme for this year is ‘Museums as Cultural Hubs: The future of tradition’. As the role of museums in society is changing, they keep reinventing themselves in their quest for becoming more interactive, audience-focused, community-oriented, flexible, adaptable and mobile. They have become cultural hubs functioning as platforms where creativity combines with knowledge and where visitors can also co-create, share and interact. The National Gallery of Modern Art as a cultural hub is finding new ways to honour its collections, it’s legacy, creating traditions that will have involve the youth. Its mission is to involve and create a cultural relationship with the various communities and to constantly contribute in this direction.
