Limited edition Dragon Quest PS Vita replaces the up button with a

first_imgI keep hearing that the PlayStation Vita is dead as a handheld, but with a very healthy library of Vita games on my shelf and yet more pre-ordered, I have to disagree with those calls. The Vita is far from dead, and proof of that can be seen in the latest limited edition of the handheld Sony has created.Early next year Square Enix’s take on Minecraft launches in the form of Dragon Quest Builders, and Sony has taken the opportunity to create a PlayStation Vita Dragon Quest Metal Slime edition. The silver Vita has an exclusive theme to use, the back of the device has Dragon Quest imagery, and the headphone jack is covered by a Liquid Metal Slime figure. However, the biggest change is the up button on the D-pad. It no longer has the up symbol as it has been replaced with a Slime. I wonder how hard it was for Square Enix to convince Sony to do that? The special edition Vita will ship with the game in a nice looking premium box carrying a retail price of around $210. It seems very unlikely this package will be offered outside of Japan as Dragon Quest unfortunately just isn’t popular enough, but that should create a very healthy import market for it. The Vita has no region locking, after all.Seeing Dragon Quest designs on a PS Vita shouldn’t really come as a surprise to anyone. The series is huge in Japan and we’ve already seen a special edition Dragon Quest Heroes PS4 with similar Metal Slime details. There’s also been a Dragon Quest Android smartphone!
