first_imgBERLIN – Panathinaikos got an important away win in Euroleague basketball play on Feb. 6, beating a tough Alba Berlin club, 65-59.The victory gives the Greens a better chance of advancing in the tourney to the knockout stage amid fierce competition.Panathinaikos had to struggle through a slow first half, scoring only 22 points and looking as if it wasn’t up to the task, trailing by seven at the break against a German team that had beaten the NBA champion San Antonio Spurs, 94-93 in an exhibition game late last October and had beaten Spanish giant Barcelona this season.Alba opened the lead to 41-30 before the visitors roared back to a 45-45 tie at the end of the third period behind stalwart defense from James Gist and scoring from forward Loukas Mavrokefalidis, who garnered seven in the quarter.Panathinaikos opened the fourth with six straight points before three-point bombs from Antonis Fotsis lifted the lead to 61-50. Mavrokefalidis led the team with 11 points, while captain Dimitris Diamantidis and Vladimir Jankovits added 10 points each.TweetPinShare0 Shareslast_img
